Children's Sewing Club is a fun, creative, and practical introduction to the world of hand sewing. Designed for beginners and young makers, this hands-on program teaches foundational sewing skills through a collection of engaging projects that children can use, wear, gift, or treasure. Throughout the term, students will learn how to safely use needles and thread, practise a variety of simple stitches, follow patterns, assemble soft creations, and develop confidence working independently on textile projects. Along the way, children will strengthen fine motor skills, patience, concentration, and problem-solving abilities while experiencing the satisfaction of creating something entirely by hand.
Weeks 1 & 2: Little Fox Hand-Warmer Packs
Begin the term by learning essential sewing skills while creating an adorable fox-shaped hand-warmer heat pack. Students will learn how to cut fabric pieces, use basic hand stitches, assemble shapes, and safely fill and finish their project. Over the two weeks, children will have time to focus on neat stitching, decorative details, and building confidence with sewing tools while creating a practical companion for the colder months
Weeks 3 & 4: Plush Cactus
Create a charming felt cactus that never needs watering. This project introduces students to shaping and constructing three-dimensional soft sculptures while further developing stitching and assembly skills. Children can personalise their cactus learning embroidery techniques for decorative embellishments and creative details.
Weeks 5 & 6: Teddy Bears
Build confidence with a larger sewing project by creating a cuddly teddy bear softie. Students will learn how to assemble multiple fabric pieces, add facial features and decorative elements, stuff their creation evenly, and carefully turn the project right-side out for a polished finish. Working over two weeks allows children to slow down, focus on craftsmanship, and create a treasured keepsake to take home.
Weeks 7 & 8: Lip Balm Holder Bag Charm
Finish the term by creating a practical accessory that can be attached to a backpack, handbag, or keyring. Students will learn precision sewing techniques while constructing a compact lip balm holder complete with a strap or attachment loop. This project focuses on neat finishing skills and demonstrates how sewing can be used to create useful everyday items that are both functional and handmade.
Whether your child is completely new to sewing or already enjoys crafting, Children's Sewing Club provides a supportive and encouraging environment where creativity, confidence, and practical skills can grow together. Each session is designed to inspire a love of handmade creations while teaching valuable lifelong skills through creativity, patience, and making.
