What we’ll be making: Pom poms and burlap stitching

In this workshop, children will explore the world of colour and texture as they create their own fluffy wool pom poms and stitch bright designs onto natural burlap fabric. Inspired by rainbows and joyful patterns, they’ll explore fibre art in a fun, hands-on way.

Guided step by step, students will learn how to wrap and tie wool to make full, bouncy pom poms, then use safe stitching techniques to sew simple decorative shapes and lines into their burlap. They’ll experiment with colour combinations, pattern placement, and texture to build a playful mixed-media piece.

All materials are provided, including a beautiful selection of colourful wool, child-friendly needles, and pre-cut burlap—so every child will leave with a finished textile artwork ready to hang or display at home.

Working with fibre and fabric supports fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and patience. The process encourages children to plan their designs, make creative choices, and take pride in learning new practical skills.

This workshop is perfect for children who love working with their hands, enjoy colour and texture, and are excited to try sewing and fibre art for the first time in a warm and supportive studio environment.
