Pinch Pot Pets

In this workshop children will explore the basics of ceramic hand-building in a fun and approachable way. Using the simple pinch pot technique as a starting point, they’ll learn how to shape and transform clay into animal forms. Step by step, children will be guided through building, attaching, and refining their pieces using essential clay joining techniques. We’ll create ceramic owls and axolotls using the skills we’ve learned. If time allows, children will have time to create an extra clay pet of their choice using the skills they’ve learned. By the end of the session, students will have a unique collection of clay animals ready to take home. 

We’ll be working with air dry clay, so there’s no waiting for firing. Everyone leaves with their finished pieces on the same day. Allow a week for drying time then continue creating at home by painting your sculptures with acrylic paint.

Working with clay offers many wonderful benefits. It strengthens fine motor skills, improves focus, and encourages patience and problem-solving. The hands-on nature of clay also provides a calming sensory experience, helping children feel grounded while they create. Most importantly, it builds confidence as they turn a simple lump of clay into something entirely their own.
