What we’ll be making: A Needle-Felted Tote Bag

Discover the art of needle felting while creating a beautiful tote bag that can be used every day. In this hands-on workshop, children will transform colourful wool fibres into their own decorative design before felting it directly onto a fabric bag.

Children will choose from an assortment of colourful wool fibres and stencils, experimenting with different colour combinations and planning their own designs. They might create flowers, fruit, animals, mushrooms, patterns or something completely from their imagination.

Using needle-felting techniques, children will learn how loose wool fibres can be shaped, layered and secured to fabric. They’ll explore colour, texture and composition as they gradually build their design and bring it to life.

There will be plenty of room for individual creativity as children choose their own colours, shapes and decorative details. Every tote bag will be completely unique!

The finished tote bag can be used as a library bag, shopping bag, art bag, sleepover bag or for carrying everyday essentials.

All materials and tools are provided, including fabric tote bags, colourful wool fibres, stencils and needle-felting tools.

This workshop is perfect for children who enjoy colour, textiles and hands-on creative making. They’ll learn a new fibre-art technique while creating something practical that they can use and enjoy every day.

Please note: Needle-felting needles are very sharp and will be used throughout this workshop. Children will receive clear safety instructions and will be closely supervised while using the needles. Finger guards will also be available for children who would like additional protection while felting.

Parents are welcome to stay and observe, or to drop off children aged seven and over. If you are dropping your child off, a sign-in sheet and consent waiver will be provided for a parent or guardian to complete at the beginning of the class. We are conveniently located next to Patisserie Bleu and John Connell Reserve Playground.
