After School Art Club - Term 3

Welcome to After School Art Club, an experimental space where young artists aged 5 to 11 can explore and unwind!

This club is all about trying new techniques, playing with materials, and enjoying the creative process. Each week, children are encouraged to explore ideas freely, take creative risks, and discover what they enjoy most about making art.

While guidance and inspiration are always provided, this is a relaxed, process-focused class rather than a highly structured, step-by-step program. If you’re looking for a very guided, uniform outcome each week, this may not be the right fit — but if your child loves experimenting, expressing themselves, and trying new materials, they’ll feel right at home here.

Parents are invited to drop and go for ages 5+, or stay and relax in our cosy studio while your child creates.

What We’ll Be Creating – Week by Week

Week 2 – Dragon Eyes (Air Dry Clay)

Children will sculpt imaginative dragon eyes using air-dry clay, exploring texture, pattern, and fantasy-inspired design.

Week 3 – Beaded Balancing Mobiles (Wire & Beads)

An engineering-meets-art session where children create balancing hanging mobiles using wire, beads, and careful weight distribution.

Week 4 – Yarn Painting (Yarn & Glue on Canvas)

Children will explore texture and line by building colourful yarn compositions on canvas using glue, layering, and pattern-making.

Week 5 – Cake Sculptures (Inspired by Emma Collins)

Using cardboard and craft materials, children will design and build playful 3D cake sculptures inspired by sculptural dessert artworks.

Week 6 – Cardboard Self Portraits (Inspired by Pablo Picasso)

A bold portrait session where children create expressive self-portraits using cut and layered cardboard, inspired by Picasso’s abstract portrait style.

Week 7 – Sweet Treat Still Life (Inspired by Wayne Thiebaud)

Children will create vibrant still life artworks of sweet treats using oil pastel and acrylic paint, focusing on colour, shadow, and repetition.

Week 8 – Tissue Paper Collage (Inspired by Henri Matisse)

A cut-and-compose collage session using coloured tissue paper and card, exploring shape, balance, and bold composition.

Week 9 – Abstract Watercolour Play

A relaxed experimental session focusing on watercolour techniques, colour mixing, brush control, and expressive mark-making.

All materials are provided — just bring your imagination!
